| What began back in 1952 as a small group of
pioneers has in the course of half a century developed into a professionally-run
organisation employing some 270 members of staff. |

| Rega was founded on 27 April 1952, when the
physician, Dr. Rudolf Bucher, proposed that a sub-section of the
Swiss rescue organisation, the Schweizerische Lebensrettungs-Gesellschaft,
should be formed, which would specialise in rescue by air. |
